Things That Make Me Go Hmmmmm? Continued.

I’m smart (not MENSA smart mind you,) but I have enough sense to come out of the rain so to speak. Anyway, there are things I just don’t get- and continually make me go: Hmmmmm.

And everyone once in a while - I post about them.

SO (and in no particular order) here are some additions to things in this universe that make me go Hmmm?

Algebra – And yes, I have the High School & college transcripts to prove it.

Why 2 bottles of insulin cost me $138 dollars out of pocket- and why is it that my insurance company ONLY reimburses me 40%, which comes out to be $55.

Why does my insurance company penalize me because insulin is not made in a generic form? It’s not like it’s a “luxury” medication to make my eyelashes grow longer, thicker, & more luxurious. I need insulin to live for goodness sake!

Why do people LOVE to eat Scrapple? Not me, of course. I have not ideal why ANYONE in the universe would eat something called Scrapple and I have a very vivid memory of my 4 year old self saying that very same phrase to my mother.

For those of you not in the East Coast Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware region-Scrapple is a “delicacy,” (and I use that term VERY LOOSELY) which one either loves or loathes. Let’s just say it’s made from the “scrap” pieces from a pig. I think I would loathe it- even though to be fair, I’ve never eaten it. And I NEVER will.

Why does my insulin pump battery need to changed the ONE time I forget to carry a spare?

Why do people watch “The Hills?” Now to fair, I’ve NEVER watched the show, so I may very well be missing out on something phenomenal. But for what

I’ve seen and read about the show and its stars, IT"S TOTALLY FAKE. And they “seem” to be shallow- like really shallow. More shallow then the bay at low tide.

How come whenever I’m at my moms and we’re watching TV, a commercial for ED (Erectile Dysfunction) comes on?

And why does she ask me every single time what ED is??? This NEVER happens to my siblings!

Why are people shocked when I tell them I’ve never eaten anything from Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Why are most shoes made for those of us made with wide feet so ugly and sensible looking? A wide toe span does not mean that one has no sense of fashion and or taste.

Why are Kim Kardashian and her sisters famous?

Why is it that that Every January 1st, the cost for my insulin magically goes down to $126 for two bottles, but then and just as magically, go back up to $138 once I reach my deductible?

Why do nail fungus commercials think I actually want to see either a real live nail fungus or an artist’s rendering on said commercial? I’ll take your word that they do indeed suck- I don’t need visuals!

Why do people only see this face:

Or These faces

Or These.....

As the faces of Diabetes?

People with Diabetes are a diverse group spanning many ages, races, and types and it's time the media represent all of our faces!

Diabetesaliciousness-Lite, Pinched Nerve Edition.
Due to a pinched nerve in my neck (most likely caused by the external rotation issues I've been having due to my ice inspired shoulder,) this week's Diabetesalicious Lite Edition will be short, because I PROMISED my Chiropractor that I'd spend a limited amount of time on my computer for the next few days.
Actually, he mentioned something about "cold turkey" and I pretended not to hear him, but I digress.

SO, for those of you American Idol/Crystal Bowersox click HERE to read Amy Tenderich's interview and be prepared to be inspired.

Bernard Farrell does a great job of keeping the D-O-C informed when new members move into dBlogville. Click HERE to read about some great new diabetes bloggers.

Jacquie Wojcik over at Typical Type 1, a.k.a Bad Pancreas, wrote yet another post that was from the heart & spoke to all pwds! Jacquie bravely admits that she is a "recovering type 2 blamer," and damn it, if she can be brave, so can I. Years ago (and by years I mean maybe 6 or 7) I too blamed type 2's for a multitude of diabetes sins. Like Jacq, I've seen the error of my ways and I will kick ass if I hear someone blaming a type 2 in my presence. But still, the guilt is with me everyday because I can't believe what a schmuck I once was. To my fellow pwds with type 2, I apologize from the bottom of my broken pancreas - which geographically speaking is a much lower place than the bottom of my heart. Read Jacquie's wonderful post right now!

Over at BlogHer, Kerri Sparling called out celebrities who have found the "diabetes cure" and schooled them good! Click HERE to read her fantastic post!

Mike Hoskins over at The Diabetes Corner Booth wrote a great post about name changes. More specifically, how The Corn Refiners Ass of America wants to change the name from high fructose corn syrup to a more "simpler" corn sugar. Once again, they think the American public is confused about the evils of HFCS. Can you say "Bite me bitches?!" Click HERE to read it!!

For those of you who read my "Chi, chi,chi Chiabetic" Post, I've now added a pic (now that I received his approval to post it) of my fantastical friend Mark and I, and Yes, I'm in a bridesmaid's dress, in a bar, after a wedding. But honestly, I think it captures our friendship & it's one of my favorite pics of us! Click HERE to see Marky Mark.

On the holiday front, today is national Hug A Vegetarian Day and Native American Day.

On the weird and wacky fact front, did you know that tigers have striped skin, not just striped fur. FOR REALZ.

Rubber bands last longer when kept in the refrigerator.

The characters "Bert" and "Ernie" on Sesame Street were named after "Bert the cop" and "Ernie the taxi driver" in Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life." Actually I did know that one, and now you do!

"OK Doc, I'm getting off the computer now - I SWEAR!"
OK, gotta go!

Avandia is banned

Avandia is banned
At last, Avandia has been banned in Europe. This drug has demonstrated everything that is wrong with ConMed. It was introduced in 1999 and hailed as a major advance in the treatment of diabetes. It has been an enormously successful drug - financially. But disastrous for many patients who were eagerly persuaded to take it.

The drug never cured anyone with diabetes. It was never intended to do so. Like most ConMed drugs it merely suppressed the symptoms, whilst ignoring the underlying causes of the disease.

It is unknown how many people it has killed, but it was found to increase the chance of heart attack by 43%. Few would have known about the dangers of the drug, because they would not have been told. It is now known that the FDA knew about the dangers since 2003 - 7 years ago. And they have still not banned it in the USA.

The European Medicines Agency has now banned the drug in Europe, about 11 years too late for many patients! It is the usual story. A drug, that progressed through all its 'scientific' testing, and was announced to be safe and effective by the ConMed establishment.

This is the 'evidence base', the science, upon which all ConMed drugs are supposed to be based. It is a lie, a charade, a profit-driven deception on patients, to which the drug companies, the government, the NHS, and all those who prescribe the drug, are party.

This is not the first, nor will it be the last drug to be banned. ConMed drugs that are being prescribed today will come to the same predictable, almost inevitable end.
