If My Diabetes Had A Voice. Or: She Who Lives In A Glass Bitch House Should Not Be Throwing Stones....

I have a diabetes voice and I’m not afraid to use it - we all know that!

And you all have a diabetes voice, and it’s my hope that you use it for yourself and others.

But right now I wish my diabetes had a voice - Like an audible one that spoke fluent English in a diabetes dialect, so it could tell me what the heck’s going on!

OK, here’s the thing, I haven’t been running high, but I haven’t been running low these past few days either. Instead, I’ve been in the mid 160s & 170s since Monday. I feel fine, but it’s annoying none the less.

I just want my normal numbers back.

I wish diabetes could just tell me straight up what’s going on. And in my head, I imagine that our conversation would go something like this:

Diabetes: Yo Kel, I think there’s a good chance your sinuses are acting up again - Or your catching a summer cold. Something's going on - Have you seen your numbers lately!

Me: Yeah, I figured as much. And of course I’ve seen my numbers! It’s not like you give me any choice about being a human pincushion. Seriously, do you think I just fell of the Diabetes Turnip Truck yesterday?

Diabetes: So why not up the temporary basal rate already?

Me: OK, first of all, I was seriously considering upping my temporary basal rate, but I thought maybe you were just being bitchy, which is why I waited.

Diabetes: No, this has nothing to do with my bitchiness. And need I remind you that she who lives in a glass Bitch House should not be throwing stones. Catch my drift?

Me: Dually noted - But let's face it, you flipped my Diabetes BitchSwitch when you went ape shit on my Islet of Langerhans back in the third grade. But thanks for communicating re: elevated blood sugars linked to a cold/ sinus iss- ue. My ears are starting to hurt - I think it’s my sinuses. I’m upping my temporary basal rate for the next 24 hours and taking it from there.

Diabetes: That sounds like a plan.

Me: Now about you going all medieval on my Islets of Langerhans back in the day...........

Ring In The Symlin

Ring In The Symlin
I just got back from my Endo. The good news is my blood work wasn't bad as far as blood work goes. Kidneys look good, as does cholesterol, and I haven't gained any weight.

The not so wonderful news is that my a1c was 7.4 ( I have no idea how that happened ) up from 7.2 in January.

When I heard the news from the Attending intern I was ready to cry. And I would have, except at that point my blood was boiling and I wanted to give myself a swift kick in the ass!

A few minutes later Dr.J walked in and said: "Hi Kelly, how are you doing?"

Me: ANGRY

Dr. J: Why exactly?

Me: Because of my a1c. I test like crazy and my 24 hour insulin intake is somewhere between 32 & 39 units. I don't get what my problem is.

Dr. J: Kelly (I have to mention that he pronounces my name so it sounds like "Kel-lee") No more playing with basal rates and rearranging your life,we need to nip this in the bud now. If you have an issue with Metformin we need to try SYMLIN

Me: Metformin caused my hair to thin and clumps to end up on the carpet Dr J. Call me crazy, but that really freaked me out, good numbers or not. I could try basal testing again, and I could exercise more. I've really been lackadaisical on my exercise - I need to do better in that department.

Dr. J: We could spend weeks going back and forth Kelly. You work so hard on taking care of your diabetes. Symlin is going to help you. We can see how it works out, and if you still hate it by your next visit in November, we talk about something else. Deal?

Dr J and I agreed (and yes, it took him some convincing before we shook on it) that I need to start Symlin, like, tonight.

Me: OK.....AGREED.

Dr J: Kelly Trust me, your going to be so happy with the results- I promise!

Then Dr. J ran out and grabbed me a Symlin Pen sample/DVD along with a generous amount of insulin samples and a new One Touch lime green mini to replace the one I spilled New York clam chowder on back in May.
And together we went over the Symlin instructions including; where to inject, priming of the pen, and dosage instructions.

Dr J: OK "Kel-lee", we are going to start with one shot before your dinner because you tell me that dinner and after is when you are most hungry- which is what most people say, so your not alone. OK this is what your going to do:

15 mcgs before dinner for one week.
Increase rate to 30 mcgs at dinner the second week
Increase to 45 mcg before dinner the third week
Increase to 60 mcg before dinner the forth week.

Afer the first month, we can talk about increasing it to your lunch time meal as well.

Now "Kel-lee" this is important, decrease your dinner bolus by 30 %, because most patients find that is the number that works to cover both their meal and the initial nausea. OK?

Me: OK.

Dr. J: Now you might experience some nausea, but don't give up. If it becomes to much when you increase from 15 to 30 mcgs, call me and we can stretch out your body's introduction to Symlin, like we did when you were on Metformin.

Me: Nausea, I'm not really a fan Dr. J, but OK.

Dr. J: It's going to be OK- we are going to get through this.

Me: Yes, we will.

Dr J: OK, keep Cheryl (his right hand and awesome CDE) posted via email. She forwards me everyone of your emails and her and I work together to figure out what to do for you.

If all goes well, I'll see you in 3 or 4 months months and your a1c will be back in the 6's.

Me: OK, but I want to come back in 3 months, not 4.

Dr J: 3 months it is, no problem- looking forward to seeing you then.

We said our goodbyes, I held my head up high, and walked out of the office.
But inside, I still felt like a failure.

But I still had hope - and as we all know, hope floats. So here's my latest Diabetes Math equation that makes me smile and gives me a shot of hope at the same time.

Hope
+ the drive to succeed
+ Symlin
+ a positive attitude
+ more exercise
+ the support of my diabetes pit crew
+ the support of my diabetes on-line community
=
Getting my a1c back to where I need it to be.

PS: If any of you have been a passenger on the Symlin Express & have any advice or thoughts you'd like to share, I'd really appreciate it!

And still the denialists deny it! Please see the comments on my previous post.

It would seem that there are some people who would defend anything that Big Pharma, or those allies of Big Pharma (like Bill Gates) does.

I have been accused of 'making things up' and 'repeating untrue rumour'. Isn't that awful of me? Well, here are some more reports of the same, dreadful incident.

I doubt that will not be sufficient for some people. But all I am saying is this:

What a dreadful, dreadful medicine that seeks to force people into having vaccination, medication they do not want.

Compusory Medication

Compusory Medication
When big corporations get too big, too greedy, too desperate to make profit, they will go to any lengths to sell their products to us - even if is detrimental to our health. This is, in fact, the position of the Big Pharma companies now - and it has been some many years.

One of our greatest, and most important freedoms is the right to choose what medical therapy we use to keep us healthy, and to make us better when we become sick. Big Pharma, and their allies, are trying hard to overcome resistance to their drugs and vaccines - by forcing us to take them.

The situation is much worse in the USA than it is in the UK. There, children are being removed from their parents - because their parents are refusing to allow them to be vaccinated. See, for example, the "I support Maryanne Godboldo" campaign on Facebook. Her children have been removed from her care, and she is currently facing criminal proceedings, for this very reason.

Perhaps the most extreme example of Big Pharma, and the ConMed Establishment generally, over-reaching itself, and causing serious human rights transgressions, is over vaccines being given to young African children at gunpoint in Malawi. Apparently the families had actually fled the country in order to prevent the vaccination.  See, for example.

* What sort of medicine is it, that can be offered, free of charge to people, but who refuse it?
* What sort of medicine is it that seeks to force people to take medication, when they do not want it?

Indeed, what sort of medicine is it that can be offered, free, refused; and then for people to go out in search of more effective and safer medical therapies, like homeopathy, that usually has to be paid for?

The reason is, of course, that ConMed is dangerous, and ineffective - and increasing numbers of people are becoming aware of this. Moreover, some people are prepared to go to great lengths, and considerable personal inconvenience, to refuse it.

All this damning evidence against ConMed is alive and well in the UK. The NHS is trying desperately to prevent people having homeopathy treatment, to the point of refusing patients treatment - even when they are entitled to treatment. See, for instance the "Patient Choice, Homeopathy and the NHS" group on Facebook that I am organising.

If you wish to know about the growing failures of conventional medicine, you are invited to subscribe to my new weekly e-newspaper, "The Failure of Conventional Medicine" at
http://paper.li/f-1310656332.

This e-newspaper will feature articles taken from the internet, about matters not normally published or discussed in the mainstream media (which, of course, is dominated by Big Pharma and ConMed). If you believe that the corruption and failure of Conventional Medicine is a small, and occasional matter, the e-newspaper will disabuse you!
