Diabetes Art Day 2011

Can you spot all the diabetes supplies? "Eye" Think you can!

I'm no Picasso, and the past two weeks have been incredibly hectic and stressful re: my mother's health scare, but I wanted to do something to support and promote the second annual DIABETES ART DAY.
So I took the 5 free minutes I had this morning and created the above.
Then, I snapped my creation with my iphone, mailed it to myself, and when I got to the hospital this afternoon after work, I uploaded it to my laptop and wrote my post!
I will say that the 5 minutes of focusing on something fun and creative made today much less stressful!
Lee Ann Thill of "The Butter Compartment," created Diabetes Art Day to promote the benefit of art therapy for diabetes. And I have to tell you - Working on the above for just 5 minutes but a smile on my face and lowered my stress level 50% !

While this year's submission isn't as creative as my 2010 submission, I'm so glad I participated!

Be sure to follow the #DArtDay hashtag on the twitter!

Diabetes Art Day "Dum Spiro, Spero"

It's Diabetes Art Day, and yours truly was fearing it. Words and performing have always been my mediums, and the thought of a canvas was intimidating - Did I mention the fact that I can't draw to save my life?

But I followed LeeAnn's advice and worked with what I had, and I kept telling myself that there was no "right" way to do this.

So I cracked open my used diabetes supply container and thought about my life with diabetes. Except life with diabetes (at least for for me) isn't just about my life, it's a family affair. So I thought about my family, and then the part of me that loves tiara's and sparkles thought about what the Kunik Family crest might look like with a diabetes twist.

The Kunik Family Crest - All tricked out Diabetes Style~

After I took the pic, I immediately thought of my other diabetes family, the D-O-C, which is compromised of all types of PWDs and their families. And you know what? I LOVE my Diabetes community and consider them (you) family - and I didn't want to leave a single person out. So I played around with the "crop" feature on my camera and here's what I came up with!

Words to live by!

FYI: "Dum Spiro, Spero - While I breathe, I hope," is the Dillon Family Motto (I'm a Dillon because my father's mother was a Dillon) and it really reminded me of living life with diabetes.

As long as I breathe, I will continue to hope and strive for a wonderful life - and a cure.

Thanks LeeAnn, for inspiring me to embrace my inner Amedeo Modigliani!

I can't wait to do it again!

Teething and Homeopathy

Teething and Homeopathy
There is nothing more distressing that watching a young baby in pain because teeth are beginning to grow through the gums. Parents feel helpless, the baby is helpless too, and because (s)he is loved, everyone feels the pain. Homeopathy can help, and it has two remedies, one of which usually works - Chamomilla and Pulsatilla.

How do you know which one to give your child? Well, he (or she) will let you know!

If the baby is crying hard, is irritable and stroppy, and nothing you do seems to help, Chamomilla 30c is what is required.

If the baby is crying hard, but is miserably, pitiful, clingy, and needs to be held and comforted all the time, Pulsatilla 30c will usually work

There are other remedies too, such as Belladonna (whose symptoms are lots of redness, burning, high temperature0, but homeopathy is safer, more effective, and less expensive than conventional treatment.

Bonjela, for instance, is known to cause ulceration, possibly because the active ingredient is based on aspirin, well known to be a stomach irritant.

Dear Diabetes: What's With the Bitch Fit?

Dear Diabetes: What's With the Bitch Fit?

Dear Diabetes:

What’s with the “Bitch Fit?”

This morning I woke up tired and with a blood sugar of 209 – not terrible but not how I like to start my day.

Last night before bed you decided to surprise me with a low (which I didn’t even feel) of 62. And before that, my numbers had been on the low side since Friday, which I chalk up to being a woman. Ladies, I think you know what I’m talking about- the whole 28 day cycle thing. I swear I could a dozen chocolate cupcakes with Vanilla and Coconut icing and still not get above 111 for those 4 or 5 days a month. That Mother Nature can be such a BITCH!

Diabetes, pardon my French, but make up your f^c$ing mind and get with the program!

I test between 10 and 15 times a day- religiously- and have the callused fingers to prove it!

I don’t like it when you decide to go all medieval diabetes just because you can.

I don’t care if it’s your prerogative-it’s not mine!

Today is a travel day for work and I don’t want any drama from you. No highs that make me feel like I’m walking through J-E-L-L-O or lows that make me break into a cold sweat and feel numb all over. Or worse yet, you decide to be all symptom free re: the lows and I feel nothing, like last night.  I WON’T HAVE IT, so don’t even go there again.

I want to be middle of the road and drama free. I’m watching you- I’ll be checking my numbers and you’d better be in Blood Sugar Nirvana range.

There, I’ve put it in writing and you’ve been warned.

I’M DONE AND I'M WATCHING YOU.

Kelly~

The dangers of Flu vaccination

The dangers of Flu vaccination
The dangers of flu vaccination continue to appear. They have now been banned in Australia and Finland.

http://www.naturalnews.com/029596_vaccines_narcolepsy.html

What will happen in the UK? The NHS will say they are safe and effective and recommend it. The mainstream media will just keep quiet. The taxpayer will pay for it. And the patients will suffer from it. And the Big Pharma companies will be left to count the profits.

What do I do? Homeopathy is safer and more effective. I take one remedy, each month, during the winter, and I have not had flu for 15 years. What is the remedy? Oscillococinum 30c.

The dangers of Statins - and Cholesterol

The dangers of Statins - and Cholesterol
People using statins, which reputedly lower cholesterol,  have a higher risk of liver dysfunction, kidney failure, muscle weakness and cataracts - according to a study that covered more than 2 million people in Britain by researchers from Nottingham University.

The findings have been published in the British Medical Journal, and by Reuters

Statins have been considered to be wonder drugs, with few if any side-effects. Some doctors are still saying that everyone at risk of heart attack of stroke should take them. Just a few weeks ago one doctor suggested they should be taken by everyone who has a 'fast-food' meal.
The mainstream media does not think it is worth passing on to their readers, listeners and viewers, even though Statin drugs have been prescribed to millions of patients on the basis that they are entirely safe, and have become the best selling ConMed drugs, and of course, highly profitable.
All ConMed drugs are dangerous, and consequently should be avoided. Most of them, 85% it has been calculated, are also useless. So there is no point taking them. Your body controls the levels of cholesterol, and as long as you have a good diet, and a healthy lifestyle, you can leave it to your body. If in doubt, consult a homeopath - who will at least do nothing to harm you, and if you have high cholesterol, homeopathy can help you body get back in control of its production.

Stomach problems? Try Homeopathy

Stomach problems? Try Homeopathy
Antacids are posing dangers to older people. So says a group of NHS doctors, apparently. Well homeopathy is more effective, and poses no dangers. It is also much cheaper. Every family should have Nux Vomica in the home, and use it whenever someone has indigestion, or stomach upset.

This story was published in the New York Times, and Natural News. Strange, is it not, that it is not being reported in the UK. We are just not supposed to know about it!

Antacids are linked to an increased risk of gastro-inestinal infections. On category, proton pump inhibitors, increase the risk of pneumonia! The New York Times says:

"Several studies also have shown an increased risk of bone fractures from osteoporosis in patients taking PPIs, though the result aren't consistent. Possible the change in stomach acidity reduces the body's ability to absorb calcium".
New York Times, 11th August 2010

Why take any risk? Move to homeopathy, and have some Nux Vomica handy.
